The Opportunity

Our Real Estate team is looking to hire a full-time Construction Manager.  This position will be located either in our Chicago, IL office or our Washington, DC office.  The Construction Manager is responsible for coordinating all construction and capital expenditure projects for Boyd Watterson real estate investment portfolios, providing managerial oversight and technical expertise.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical guidance to team members on all aspects of tenant improvement and building capital expenditure projects (scope, design, construction, scheduling, and delivery)

  • Assist Heads of Asset Management to develop high-level project scopes, budgets, schedules, and establish priorities across the portfolio

  • Review construction and development budgets and proformas for accuracy and make quarterly reports to the Heads of Asset Management and Portfolio Managers with regards to budgeted goals and objectives

  • Perform site inspections of potential acquisitions as directed by the Portfolio Managers. In that regard, review third-party and consultant reports for accuracy and expected needs for capital expenditures during the firm’s ownership of an asset

  • Continually reassess capital needs and priorities across the entire portfolio

  • Assist the Heads of Asset Management to improve capital expenditure reporting requirements and transparency with portfolio management and senior management teams by working with Boyd Watterson’s union labor consultant, tracking warranty expirations, and monitoring lease mandated carpet and paint projects

  • Maintain strong relationships with industry professionals including project managers, contractors, subcontractors, architects, engineers, consultants, etc.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or construction management preferred

  • 10+ years of experience in project management, construction, engineering, and/or real estate development

  • Background managing government tenant and/or base building construction projects a plus

  • A self-starter committed to detail, efficiency, and organization

  • Willingness to travel

  • Strong efficiency in Microsoft Excel

  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written, including ability to articulate recommendations in a concise and timely manner
