The real estate products are mainly delivered through private funds that primarily own and operate commercial buildings under lease to agencies of the US government, and state and local governments. Our fixed income and equity products are delivered through separately managed accounts, mutual funds, and intermediaries. We offer a broad range of products in the fixed income space and focus on large capital income-oriented strategies in the equity space.

The Opportunity

Our Fixed Income Analyst is responsible for assisting in fixed income portfolio management to ensure the investment of client assets in a manner consistent with client guidelines, with a goal of realizing client objectives, outperforming applicable benchmarks and competitor peer groups, while managing downside risks. Candidate will be conducting credit research and identifying investments that provide attractive risk-adjusted returns for use by Portfolio Managers in executing fixed income strategies. Additionally providing support for the fixed income team that contributes to the investment decision making process and business development opportunities. Will be responsible for trade execution across a broad variety of securities via electronic platforms and direct negotiation in a manner that achieves the best execution level, timeliness, and accuracy.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Portfolio Management Support for Fixed Income Mutual Funds:
    • Goal of realizing client objectives, outperforming applicable benchmarks and competitor peer groups, while managing downside risks.
    • Assist Portfolio Managers with mutual fund reporting
    • Monthly duration reports -N-Port data requests, liquidity determination
    • Quarterly reports – compliance reports, 12D3-1 reports, sub adviser questionnaires, Morningstar fixed income surveys, quarterly write-ups and bullet points.
  • Fixed Income Research:
    • Monitor/assess developments that impact BWAM’s existing corporate bond holdings within assigned industries.
    • Work with senior members of the fixed income team in the analysis and assessment of investment opportunities with an emphasis on ESG.
    • Identify, research, and obtain approval for potential new portfolio additions for sub advised mutual funds.
    • Review trade directions and send trade request to the appropriate electronic trading platform.
    • Research bond levels on multiple electronic trading systems to select best bid/offer before executing the trade.
    • Interact with approved/eligible brokers and traders over the phone and through Instant Messaging on Bloomberg.
    • Trade execution may include taxable and tax-free fixed income securities, UMA model delivery programs, equities, and mutual funds.
  • Fixed Income / Quantitative Support: 
    • Provide and communicate attribution analysis to fixed income members
    • Support fixed income meeting booklet preparation
    • Generate Bond Edge bi-weekly model portfolio reports
    • Generate Bond Edge monthly contribution to duration reports
    • Perform scenario analysis as needed
    • Month-end analytical support (durations and bond statistics)
    • Support the portfolio management staff with special requests
    • Perform miscellaneous duties as assigned

Education, Skills, Personal Characteristics and Work Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in finance or related field required
  • 1-3 years of related investment experience preferred (including trade implementation, trade execution, portfolio management, investment decision making, credit analysis, relative value assessment, and financial modeling)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft office software, including a degree of excel programming and the ability to learn new software programs
  • Independent worker, self-starter, highly motivated
  • Attention to detail
  • Analytical nature
